October 2012, not even 1 year after I bought my Nikon D5100 with kit lens. I did not feel satisfied with my kit lens, I wanted more zoom, which means I wanted lens with bigger focal length. After few reasearches, I decided to buy Nikkor AF-S DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR.
Nikkor 18-300 was just released in June 2012 so not much reviews I could find in the internet at that time. Anyway I decided to bought it despite the lack of review. My consideration for buying this lens was it covers large focal length, 18 mm to 300 mm, from wide angle lens to telephoto lens that made it "one for all lens". It really was convenient to bring only one lens to go around instead bringing couple of lens with different focal length and changing lens according to the situation. The dimension of Nikkor 18-300 was relatively big for me, approximately diameter is 83 mm and length is 120 mm. That dimension made me attract quite attention when I carried it for shooting. At that time, I did not take the weight and the size into consideration. The lens was quite heavy (approx. 550g) for me in everyday use specially if you carry it whole day. Well that's what you got if you make lens that cover large focal length.
Using this lens is actually quite convenient despite the size and weight. I can change from wide angle to tele in seconds without sweating of changing lens. It makes me feel that I can take photos of everything from everything. This is very good if you are lazy to get closer for your subject.^_^
If you want to look for the rest of the photos that I took using this lens, you can visit my flickr. Thank you and sorry for the messy review
